Recipe: Calamari Steaks
Ingredients:

  • 2 fresh calamari steaks
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic Minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp flour, for dredging
  • 1/2 cup fresh pineapple, diced
  • 1/4 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cucumber, diced
  • 1/2 small jalapeño, seeds removed and finely chopped
  • Small handful of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • Salt to taste

METHOD:

  • Rinse the calamari steaks under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  • In a bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  • Brush the calamari steaks with the marinade, ensuring both sides are coated.
  • Allow them to marinate for about 15-20 minutes as you prepare the salsa.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the diced pineapple, red onion, red bell pepper, cucumber, jalapeño, and chopped cilantro.
  • Squeeze the lime juice over the salsa and gently toss to combine.
  • Season with a pinch of salt to taste, keeping in mind the calamari steaks will contribute some saltiness.
  • Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add a bit of olive oil.
  • Dredge each calamari steak in flour, shaking off any excess.
  • Place the steaks in the pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side until they turn golden and are cooked through.
  • Transfer the pan-fried calamari steaks to serving plates.
  • Spoon the refreshing pineapple salsa over the calamari steaks.
  • Optionally, garnish with additional cilantro
